Martina Navratilova has been very vocal against the inclusion of transgender athletes in women’s sports for a long while now. And she recently took to X to put a full stop to this argument. She said that women’s sports are not the place for “mediocre male athletes” who compete as women.
This statement was made in light of the American Swimmer Meghan Coertez-Fields, a transgender athlete from Ramapo College of New Jersey, who broke a women’s school record recently after competing in the men’s team for three years. She won the 100-yard-butterfly in a record time of 57.22.
It is not the first instance that Navratilova has spoken about their participation.
Another recent case from tennis itself was Alicia Rowley, who competed as a transgender in the women’s category and won the USTA Grass Court Championship and also the indoor singles and doubles at the USTA National Championship, which bagged her the prestigious ‘Golden Ball’.
Come on @USTA– women’s tennis is not for failed male athletes- whatever age. This is not right and it is not fair. Would this be allowed at the US Open this month? Just with self ID? I don’t think so… https://t.co/UkBzhaL6b6

In July, earlier this year she had a difference of opinion with American footballer Megan Rapinoe who supports the inclusion of transgender athletes in women’s sports.
Navratilova says that it is a total injustice to the female players when they play alongside the transgender players. She feels that transgender players have a physical advantage compared to the female players.
Women’s sports is not the place for mediocre male athletes who compete as women. Period.

She has always been actively participating in the heated debates over the inclusion of Transgenders in women’s sports. After speaking about it again and again, she finally makes a general statement and says no one can change her mind.
Women’s sports is not the place for mediocre male athletes who compete as women. Period.

Martina Navratilova ridicules transgender women who smashed women’s record, calls it “a mockery”
Transgender swimmer Meghan Cortez-Fields recently broke the women’s record after competing on the men’s team for three years.
Cortez-Fields, a senior at Ramapo College in New Jersey made headlines by smashing the school’s record for the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.22. But before this Cortez Fields competed on Ramapo’s men’s team for three seasons.
Navratilova who criticized USTA earlier this year over Alicia Rowley’s Title felt the same for Meghan Cortez-Fields as she broke the record yesterday. Being overly irritated by the news, the former Women’s Grand Slam Champion took to X to show her disapproval of this feat.
“I will keep saying this over and over- this is wrong and completely unfair and quite frankly a mockery.“
