Roger Federer has inspired so many youngsters to play the sport during his playing days. The players have admired him for his achievements and his personality. One of them is Jannik Sinner who has admired Roger Federer since he was very young.
Jannik Sinner turned professional in 2018 and has been rising the ladder since then. A year later, he stated his desire to play against the ‘Big Three’. He has already played against Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic but his desire to play against Federer whom he considers his ‘idol’ remained unfulfilled as the Swiss retired in 2022.
Jannik Sinner had so far the best season of his career in 2023 reaching the semifinal of the Wimbledon Open, winning his first Masters Title, finishing runners-up at the Nitto ATP Finals, and finally leading Italy to Davis Cup victory. He finished this season as the No.4 ranked player.
Sinner has met him on multiple occasions and also was overwhelmed when he got a chance to practice with him at the 2019 Italian Open. However, he never got to play against him in any official match and it remained a wish.
In an interview with a daily newspaper, he was asked who his idol was in tennis. To which his obvious answer was Roger Federer.
“It has always been Roger Federer. I dreamed of playing with him but unfortunately it never happened. Who knows if one day we will be able to do a performance together. I’d really like to. He’s is a very good as a person as well as a great Champion.”
