Iga Swiatek mourned the unexpected death of the FRIENDS superstar Matthew Perry a.k.a. Chandler Bing.
Matthew Perry was a Canadian-American actor. He was born in August 1969, in Williamston, Massachusetts, USA. He was best known for his role in the popular sitcom FRIENDS. He played the character of Chandler Bing in the series from 1994 – 2004. Chandler was known for his sense of humor and bad luck in relationships.
It was just a day before the WTA Finals match took off in Cancun, Mexico that the actor died. The unexpected death of Perry left his fans in shock. And the second seed Iga Swiatek was saddened by the news. In a post-match interview, after she defeated Coco Gauff in the second round robin match 6-0, 7-5, she expressed about the actor.

Iga enjoyed watching FRIENDS in her childhood and since then she has been a huge fan of Matthew Perry. It was at the US Open last year when Iga Swiatek won the Title defeating Ons Jabeur in the final. It was Matthew Perry along with his friends and family members had come to watch her match. It was no surprise as Perry played tennis in his early days in Canada and also became a top-ranked junior player with a probable career in tennis.
During a changeover in the match, she noticed Perry on the screen and she got distracted for some time as she is a huge fan. That was the first time she had a chance to see him. She shared this incident on X(formerly Twitter), and Perry responded by congratulating her on the win.
Matthew Perry had to choose acting over tennis
Matthew Perry, the famous actor who took his last breath on 28th October, 2023 was very good in tennis during his early days.
He spent most of his childhood in Ottawa, Canada, and used to play tennis. He used to practice 10 hours a day, and by age 13 he became a nationally ranked player in Canada. But at the age of 15, he moved to Los Angeles and realized that he couldn’t take up tennis professionally, and transitioned to acting.
He had a very successful acting career later. However, he couldn’t pursue tennis he was always associated with the sport. He took part in a charity tennis event with Andre Agassi and Jenifer Capriati and also showed up for many tennis matches.
He was found dead in a hot tub at his home in Los Angeles on 28th October. The news took the world by storm.
