Manchester United overcame Tottenham 2-0 on Wednesday to maintain their top-four drive, but instead of being asked about the performance of his players on the field, manager ten Hag was forced to answer questions about forward Cristiano Ronaldo.
CR7, left the substitutes bench in the 89th minute to head down the tunnel at Old Trafford, where the Red Devils were defending to maintain a clean sheet. Ten Hag gave a firm reaction.
What did Erik ten Hag said of Cristiano Ronaldo leaving the field early?
Cristiano angered Ten Hag by departing Old Trafford before the completion of the second half of a pre-season friendly against Rayo Vallecano in July. Ronaldo’s early departure was deemed “inappropriate” by the Dutchman at the time.
United had their greatest performance under Ten Hag against Spurs despite the absence of Ronaldo, who has only played two Premier League games this season and was benched following Sunday’s goalless draw with Newcastle.
Ten Hag said, “I have seen him [leave the pitch], but I didn’t speak to him after. I will deal with that tomorrow,” ten Hag told Amazon Prime Video Sport. “Today, we’re celebrating this victory and now we have to recover from this [and look forward to] Saturday”.
Will Ronaldo leave Manchester United at the winter transfer window?
Ronaldo’s attempts to leave Manchester United were made public in the summer, when his agent Jorge Mendes spoke with Chelsea owner Todd Boehly. While a move did not occur, his dissatisfaction has been visible at Manchester United this season.
Because of Marcus Rashford’s success, he had to settle for a bench role with the Red Devils under their Dutch boss, something he hasn’t done since the start of his career.
He has been an undisputed starter everywhere he’s gone since his second season at Manchester United at the age of 19, even after scoring 18 Premier League goals during the 2021-22 season. United are only one point behind Chelsea in the race for a spot in the top four.
