With a win over RCD Mallorca, Xavi Hernandez’s FC Barcelona has reached the top spot of La Liga. And the match was much more important for the Spaniard coach as he reached a new career milestone as a manager.
The manager has now gone 18 La Liga games unbeaten away from home since taking charge of the team, beating the previous record held by Zinedine Zidane
Under Xavi Hernandez, FC Barcelona hasn’t seen a defeat on any of their La Liga-related travels. Their last loss away from home in the Spanish top-tier football came under Ronald Koeman last November.
It is a great thing for FC Barcelona and Xavi Hernandez as they’ll surely look forward to extending their winning run from here. But the match is going to be a big challenge.
What will be the next competition for FC Barcelona and Xavi Hernandez?
The Blaugrana will head towards Santiago Bernabéu on 16th October to face their biggest rivals, defending La Liga and UEFA Champions League winners, Real Madrid.
Barca will have fond memories of their last visit to the Bernabeu though. Xavi’s side ran out 4-0 winners in a great game in La Liga back in March. Even when Xavi’s side faced Carlo Ancelotti and co. in the pre-season, Raphinha scored the only goal.
Real Madrid will play against CA Osasuna on matchday 7. Real Madrid are still unbeaten and they are putting on a heroic display of football right now. But it looks like they’re going to get a super tough competition from FC Barcelona this season.
In Blaugrana’s win over RCD Mallorca, Robert Lewandowski found the back of the net in the 20th minute after receiving the ball from Ansu Fati. The Polish attacker calmly deposited the ball in the bottom left corner.
And Robert Lewandowski has made the lead of three goals in the list of top scorers in La Liga. He has nine goals, while Borja Iglesias has six and Iago Aapas have five goals.
