Andrey Rublev, the people’s favorite, gave the tennis world another amusing moment to cherish. His recent video has sent the tennis world in spirals.
The Russian World No. 5, Rublev among other tennis stars like Jannik Sinner, Felix Auger Aliassime, Alex de Minaur, Holger Rune, etc. featured in an ATP player’s video which focused on celebrating the occasion of love, Valentine’s Day. Each player took turns to acknowledge and confess to their favorite players.
While many names including World No. 1, Novak Djokovic were named, most of these were prompted by either the demeanor or attitude of fellow stars; Rublev’s case had a surprising reason.
The Russian star names his compatriot Daniil Medvedev as the guy he loves because he gave him the honor of being his child’s Godfather. However, Rublev had a slip of the tongue and instead of saying Godfather, he said grandfather which sent the interviewer and Rublev into fits of laughter.
“I love Daniil Medvedev because he gave me the special role to be a grandfather… Oh, grandfather. Godfather of his daughter,” Rublev said.
This funny moment also spread like wildfire among tennis fans on Twitter who already adore the goofiness of their favourite Russian star.
One fan commented that Rublev’s laugh was infectious and laughed at his honest mistake.

Another fan pointed out how Rublev continues to make out-of-line comments but always sticks out with his funny and goofy incidents.

Andrey Rublev and Daniil Medvedev both featured in the same team at the World Tennis League in the UAE earlier this year. In an on-court interview, Rublev decided to poke fun at his best friend and made a funny comment saying that he was the ‘actual’ father of Daniil’s first kid Alisa. Rublev’s comment shocked the Medvedev couple and both laughed at Rublev’s hilarious statement.
“I’m the real father, he’s the godfather,” Rublev said.
However, he later apologized and took back what he said.
“Yeah, I’m the godfather,” he corrected.
