In a recent interview, the WTA players had some funny answers to a question as to with whom they would like to walk the red carpet. Maria Sakkari was the funniest of all.
It is time for the WTA Finals starting tomorrow, and all the top 8 WTA players have already reached Cancun. They were all beautifully dressed up for an event. The singles players were dressed up in shades of white other than Iga Swiatek as the photo shoot was scheduled to take place on a beach. The 2nd seeded Iga Swiatek was seen dazzling in red.
The WTA Finals is the year-ending championship of the WTA Tour. It is the most prestigious tournament after the Majors. This year the Final is set to take place in Cancun, Mexico which will be played in hard courts. For the second time, the Finals will be played in Mexico. It was earlier hosted in 2021 at Guadalajara. It offers the biggest Prize Money among all the WTA tournaments. It will be played by the top 8 singles and doubles players in the WTA Rankings.
Aryna Sabalenka is the top seed coming into this tournament. All four champions of the Majors of 2023 have made it to the Final show. Aryna Sabalenka won the Australian Open, Iga Swiatek won the French Open, Marketa Vondrousova won the Wimbledon, and Coco Gauff won the US Open.
In an interaction with the media people, they asked the players with whom they would like to walk the red carpet. Jessica Pegula mentioned that she is a big fan of Dua Lipa, and would like to walk the red carpet with her. Maria Sakkari was quick to answer Henry Cavill. She said:
“I hope my boyfriend doesn’t get pi*sed, but he knows Henry Cavill would be my go-to.”

Henry Cavill is a British actor who is known for his roles in Superman, Mission Impossible: Fallout, Enola Homes, and many other movies.
Ons Jabeur chose Jessica Alba, Sabalenka went for David Beckham, and Swiatek gave four names- Taylor Swift and Chris Martin from the music industry and Julia Roberts and Harrison Ford from Hollywood.
Coco Gauff even tho insecure, wanted Zendaya to be her celebrity plus one while walking the rep carpet.
Maria Sakkari is dating Greece’s Prime Minister’s son
Maria Sakkari is a Greek tennis player and is seeded 8th in the WTA Finals. According to sources, she is dating Konstantinos Mitsotakis. He is the son of the Prime Minister of Greece. They have been dating since 2020. Mitsotakis is named Junior as his grandfather had a similar name.
He is 25 years old and has completed his graduation from the University of Massachusetts in 2020. He is presently serving in the Greek Military. We would’ve loved to see his reaction to Maria’s response but it seems we’ll not. At least not in the near future.
