Everyone wishes that they could one day replicate their idols and be as great as they were. Jannik SInner, an uprising tennis star, also had a similar wish that may never get fulfilled.
Roger Federer or ‘The Mighty Swiss’ as they often call him was one of the most influential and fan-favourite tennis stars to ever grace a tennis court. He was an inspiration to everyone who valued his charismatic performances and jaw-dropping shots with the calmest of vibes. One such individual who’s slowly progressing to be the next big thing, Jannik Sinner was also one of those fans.
The Italian youngster admired the wizardry of Federer, he grew up following his career and wanted to face him at least once in his career. He wished that one day he could have the same calm but ferocious demeanor of his favorite star. However, not all wishes come true. While the Italian is getting some comparisons to his Idol, there’s this one wish that will never come to fruition.
He wishes to share the tennis court with his inspiration Federer in a competitive game. The Swiss has already retired from the sport in 2022, without facing his young fan on the court.
Sinner expressed his regret of never getting a chance to play his tennis hero in a competitive game, but he still wishes that one day, both of them could unite to play each other even if it is in a friendly or in an exhibition match.
“My idol has always been Roger Federer. I dreamed of playing with him, but unfortunately it never happened. Who knows if one day we will be able to play an exhibition together. I’d really like to. He is a very good as a person as well as a great champion.”

“I wouldn’t change anything”, Jannik Sinner says he wouldn’t run back the clock to face his ‘Idol’ Roger Federer.
It is no secret that Jannik Sinner is one of the biggest admirers of Roger Federer among the active tennis players today. However, he had an interesting response when asked about playing with his childhood tennis hero.
In an interview with Italian newspaper, Corriere, Sinner was asked about his opinion on the possibility of facing his ‘Idol’, a question that seemed to be deeply personal for him. But, the Italian had an intriguing take on that situation.
Here’s what he had to say:
“I have been lucky in my life, but I miss Federer. I accept it; it’s part of the game. Official matches are no longer possible, maybe in the future, we will face each other in an exhibition. However, I wouldn’t change anything: I am happy to be a tennis player of this era. The new generation offers different styles, characters, and personalities.”
