Erling Haaland appears to be on track to smash nearly every Premier League goalscoring record right now. However, one reviewer is not having it. Celebrity Manchester United supporter Mark Goldbridge has called such speculation “sensationalist bullshit,” with the host of The United Stand preferring to see more from Haaland first.
With 15 goals in nine Premier League games for new team Manchester City, some supporters have already crowned him the finest striker in Premier League history.
What has Mark Goldbridge said about Erling Haaland?
The Norwegian international could not have done more to impress in the first few months of the season, but as Goldbridge points out, longevity is essential when it comes to naming the EPL’s finest ever striker.
Currently, Thierry Henry and Alan Shearer are commonly recognised as the two Premier League goalscoring GOATs. With 436 Premier League goals between them, it’s safe to say Haaland has a long way to go before he can compete on pure numbers alone.
Goldbridge recently clarified to TalkSPORT why Haaland isn’t yet in the picture, stating, “I don’t agree with this is the best Premier League side ever, I don’t agree with the title race is over”.
“I don’t agree with Erling Haaland is the best striker we’ve ever seen in the Premier League because I just think that is sensationalist nonsense that does no service to the history of this great league”.
Goldbridge further added, “It was very, very obvious that when you bring a striker that can do everything, is powerful, is quick, can score with both feet, outside [of the foot], in[side of the foot], and head – of course he’s going to be a success in that Manchester City side”.
Goldbridge also said, “I genuinely think you could put Che Adams up front from Southampton and he’d score goals. That’s how good that team is”.
Haaland at Manchester City
Despite Manchester City’s great start to the season and the fact that Haaland is driving their assault, the YouTuber feels the championship battle is far from finished. After defeating Manchester United 6-3 last week, City will play Liverpool next weekend in another major test of their title prospects.
While Manchester City has been in excellent form recently, it should be emphasised that they are still not at the top of the Premier League. Arsenal returned to the top of the table after a 3-2 win over Liverpool on Sunday, edging out Pep Guardiola’s side by a single point.
