Jurgen Klopp has apologised to Pep Guardiola after the Manchester City manager reported on Sunday afternoon that coins were thrown at him.
Liverpool overcame Guardiola’s team 1-0 at Anfield, due to Mohamed Salah’s amazing goal. The win is important for the Reds, who were 11th and 13 points behind City with a game in hand before Sunday afternoon. They are presently ranked seventh.
Why has Jurgen Klopp apologized to Pep Guardiola?
Guardiola grumbled after the Premier League match at a news conference. He said, “Next time we will do it better. It didn’t get me. They try it again next year… All these coins – they tried but didn’t get it. They got the coach years ago”.
Klopp responded to Guardiola’s words by saying, “Oh, horrible. I am sorry. I apologise for that. I had no idea about it. It never should happen, never”.
Liverpool have also responded to the allegations. A statement read, “We are aware of an incident involving objects being thrown into the technical area at today’s game. This is totally unacceptable behaviour and not the standards of behaviour we expect at Anfield”.
“This incident will be fully investigated using CCTV and those found guilty will be punished, including a lifetime ban from Anfield Stadium and a possible football banning order”.
Liverpool also criticised the alleged “vile shouts” heard from the away end.
Merseyside Police have stated that they will examine the incidents on Sunday afternoon. They said, “We are profoundly disturbed to hear ugly shouts about football stadium tragedies from the away section during today’s game at Anfield,” the statement said. “The concourse of the away section was also vandalised with identical graffiti”.
“We are aware of the impact such behaviour has on families, survivors, and everyone else involved in such events. We are working with the appropriate authorities, as well as Manchester City, to ensure that these chants are completely eliminated from football”.
The excitement inside Anfield erupted in the second half as Phil Foden’s goal was ruled out due to a VAR review. Erling Haaland was given a yellow card for tripping Fabinho in the build-up to a strike. When Foden scored, the game was scoreless.
In the dying minutes, Klopp was sent out after an apparent foul on Salah by Bernardo Silva went unpunished. In protest, the German went down the touchline before addressing the assistant referee. Some fans and analysts have slammed Klopp’s attitude.
