Brazil has won five FIFA World Cups- most of any nation’s national team: in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, and 2002. Additionally, the Seleço has had the best total World Cup performance, both proportionally and absolutely, with 73 wins in 109 games played, a goal difference of 124 and 237 points, with only 18 defeats.
To date, it is the only national team to have participated in every World Cup without a break or requirement for postseason play. Having won the World Cup on four continents. Europe (1958 Sweden), South America (1962 Chile), North America (1970 Mexico and 1994 United States), and Asia (2002 Korea/Japan).
The Brazilian national team has also won the FIFA Confederations Cup four times: in 1997, 2005, 2009, and 2013, respectively. Brazil qualified for the World Cup in Qatar by winning the CONMEBOL qualifying tournament.
Brazil is the most successful team in FIFA World Cup history. Their 45 points from 17 games were enough to qualify them for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Serbia, Switzerland, and Cameroon make up Group G, which includes the Selecao.
How many World Cups do the ‘Selecaos’ have?
In 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, and 2002, the Selecao won the World Cup five times in a row. They were awarded the Jules Rimet trophy, another name for the World Cup until 1970, as a permanent prize for their three tournament victories.
Brazil first competed in the World Cup in 1930. This year’s World Cup did not have a qualifying phase. As a FIFA member, each country had until February 28 of that year to confirm its participation.
Despite the fact that the World Cup was being held in Uruguay, Brazil had no concerns about taking part. After finishing second behind Yugoslavia, they were unable to move to the knockout stage.
Brazil’s Golden Era
Brazil won their first World Cup 5–2 over Sweden, becoming the first country to win a World Cup outside of their own continent. Pelé grew up as a nation. Brazil won the World Cup in Mexico three times. As a result, it’s often considered the greatest World Cup football team ever.
Brazil went 24 years without winning or reaching the final. Romário and Bebeto led a strong Brazilian team to victory in the World Cup for a record-breaking fourth time in 1994 in the United States. Their competition included victories over the USA (1–0), the Netherlands (3–2), and Sweden (1–0) in the quarterfinals and semi-finals respectively.
Brazil and Italy faced off in Pasadena. After a goalless draw in scorching heat, penalties were set up, and Brazil prevailed after Roberto Baggio missed Italy’s final penalty kick. Helping Brazil win their 4th World Cup.
Brazil won its fifth World Cup in 2002 in South Korea and Japan, led by the “Three R’s” (Ronaldo, Rivaldo, and Ronaldinho). Brazil topped the group after beating all three opponents. In the final in Yokohama, Brazil beat Germany 2–0 with two goals from Ronaldo.
