Jannik Sinner had a vastly successful 2024 season as he finished the year with a career-best rank of 4. Sinner also featured in the ATP Tour finals against Novak Djokovic in late November. The Italian won his maiden Masters 1000 title in the Canadian Open whilst finishing runners-up in the Miami Open.
Former World No. 2, Alex Corretja seems to be impressed by the young Italian’s on-court development. He has now tipped Jannik to win a major title in the 2024 season in a recent interview with Eurosport.

“I think Sinner is doing the right steps. He’s been improving his game very much.”
Corretja advised Jannik to keep tuning and adding new moves to his arsenal. He believes that a Champion needs an X-factor to come up as the victor in these high-stakes tournaments. The Spaniard suggests Jannik to keep developing his shot variations.
“It was very important to add different things, like his serve is huge, his forehand, his backhand, but also he’s slicing from time to time. He’s coming more often to the net. He’s doing some drop shots. This is a variation that he needed in order to be ready to win majors. If you only play a huge level of tennis, you’re going to win maybe [against] 80% of the guys on tour, 85%. But there are some others that you won’t beat if you don’t have something different. You need something special to win majors.”
In addition to the bits of advice, Corretja has also put his faith in the 22-year-old Sinner to win a major title or Grand Slam in a year or two.
“I think Jannik, he’s been working on that and it’s paying off. He’s ready and I think he will be ready to win a major. [In] ’24, why not? If not, ’25, but I think he’s going to be definitely 100% ready.”
Jannik is currently preparing for the upcoming season with rival and friend Carlos Alcaraz in the Juan Carlos Ferrero Academy in Spain. He starts his season with the Kooyong Classic, an exhibition tournament to be held in Melbourne before the AO.
“Carlos is a few steps ahead compared to Jannik Sinner”, Patrick Mouratoglou compares the two rising stars ahead of the 2024 season
French Tennis coach, Patrick Mouratoglou compared rising stars Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner in their capabilities and he made a hot take for the budding rivalry.
Patrick who has previously coached the likes of Serena Williams, Simona Halep, Stefanos Tstisipas, and Holger Rune compared Jannik and Alcaraz’s 2023 season and believes that Sinner might overtake Alcaraz in the coming years. He had this to say about the duo.
“I think Jannik, with what he’s done at the end of 2023, will be 100% ready to perform at the highest level.”
“It is true that Carlos is a few steps ahead compared to Jannik because he won two Grand Slams. He has been No 1, he had a lot more tools, and when he came to the tour he started to win.”
“He could do anything, he could attack, he could defend, he had this incredible drop shots, he was coming to the net a lot and he was very effective at the net. He was already complete.”
Patrick gave his reason on why he believes that 2024 might be the year Jannik competes neck to neck with the Spaniard and may even overtake him.
“The last two, three years I think Jannik developed a lot of other things. Now he is drop-shotting a lot more, he is coming to the net a lot more with efficiency. I think he is ready to do more things and adapt to different situations.“
“With the confidence of the last months, I see him playing better and stronger than Carlos next year.”
