Erling Haaland has scored 15 goals for Man City, who are once again in a position to win the championship this season, in only 10 games, including three hat-tricks.
Erling Haaland may not have scored in Manchester City’s weekend loss to Liverpool, but his first Premier League season has been nothing short of amazing.
In just 10 outings for the Citizens, who are once again in the position to win the title this season, Haaland has scored 15 goals, including three hat-tricks.
The 22-year-old Norway international is swiftly emerging as one of the top players in the world, and City is aware that retaining him at the club for the long run would be challenging given the interest he is receiving from clubs like Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and PSG.
The fact that Haaland has a £200 million release clause that kicks in from the summer of 2024 makes the issue possibly much more difficult for City.
Only teams outside of the Premier League are affected, although by then Haaland may already be considering La Liga as his next opponent.
Alf-Inge, the striker’s father, recently talked about his son’s future in the film “Haaland: The Big Decision,” admitting that he eventually wants to leave City.
He said: “I think Erling wants to prove his abilities in all leagues. Then he can stay there [Manchester City] for three or four years at the most.
“He could be, for example, two-and-a-half years in Germany, two-and-a-half years in England and then in Spain, Italy, France, right?”
“On our list, I think City is the best team,” he said. “[Bayern] Munich is number two. We have Real Madrid as number three, Paris Saint-Germain as number four.
“We also have some English teams other than City who are quite good. Liverpool and Chelsea. Also, there is Barcelona. They are sort of in the same row.”
City still has some time before they have to consider the possibility of losing their treasured possession, but the tale that is in store for them in 2024 might be very difficult.
It will be an unusual circumstance. Sebastian Kehl, the sports director of Borussia Dortmund, is well aware of the situation and has gone through a similar ordeal just last summer.
Haaland’s £51 million transfer to City was overseen by Kehl, who asserts that the entire ordeal made the striker somewhat of a “weight” in the locker room.
As much as we always admired Haaland and he was successful with us, in the end he became a burden on the dressing room, the club, and the entire environment, Kehl said in an interview with the German daily Sport Bild.
“He was now the topic of every discussion. Outside the club, he was the subject of practically everything. In the end, the transfer’s timing suited both sides. And we are all pleased for Erling that he is still doing so well.
