Drake was astonished to discover that Barcelona will use his renowned OVO owl emblem in Sunday’s (October 16) El Clasico versus Real Madrid.
Drake, the Grammy-winning Canadian musician, just became the first person to have 50 billion Spotify streams of his tracks. Barcelona, who are sponsored by Spotify, will wear Drake’s OVO owl insignia on their famed Blaugrana jersey on Sunday to mark this historic milestone.
What is the significance of using OVO owl of Drake?
The club claims that their relationship with one of the world’s top musicians would ‘bring football and music together’ and allow them to interact with new audiences internationally, with the hope that his 120 million Instagram followers will raise the team’s reputation.
According to Juli Guiu, the club’s vice president of marketing, “For the first time in our history, we are replacing the name of our main partner on the front of the jersey with an internationally acclaimed artist in Drake, winner of 4 Grammy awards and record breaker in different categories, such as being the first artist to accumulate 50 billion streams on Spotify”.
He added, “This initiative shows our potential to become a unique platform to offer experiences that help bring us closer to our fans while reaching out to new audiences around the world”.
Has Spotify allowed to use OVO owl of Drake for the Clasico?
As part of the framework of the collaboration with the Club, Spotify has granted this exclusive space on the shirt, which is just one of the activities that both businesses are putting in place to deliver creative experiences for football fans while also helping to reach new audiences through music.
As stated when the deal was finalised, this type of swap on the front of the shirt is expected to occur more frequently as the season goes.
In addition to wearing the unique matchday jersey against Real Madrid, Barca will also wear special training tops during warm-ups, sporting Drake’s name and the number 50 on the back.
Barcelona will go to the Bernabeu to face their bitter rivals on Sunday, in an interesting top-of-the-table encounter that will determine who is the favourite to win LaLiga.
