An Argentinian journalist claimed that she was robbed while she was covering the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
When Dominique Metzger’s handbag was taken, she was preoccupied with a live broadcast. She then sought assistance from the police. She was taken aback by the officials’ response to her.
Ms. Metzger said, “I went to the station and that was when the cultural differences began”. The policewoman said to me: ‘We have high-tech cameras everywhere and we are going to locate him [the thief] with face detection. What do you want the justice system to do when we find him?’
After this she was asked to clarify the police statement, so he quoted the police, “What justice do you want? What sentence do you want us to give him? Do you want him to be prisoned for five years? Do you want him to be deported?“
She said, she just wanted her items back and didn’t really bother about the accused.
Qatar FIFA World Cup Controversies
The decision to award Qatar the right to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup raised several questions and disputes over both Qatar’s suitability as a host nation and the fairness of the FIFA bidding process.
The small history of football in Qatar, the high estimated costs, the regional climate, and Qatar’s human rights record were among the issues that were brought up in criticism from various media sources, sports professionals, and human rights organizations.
Various allegations of bribery between FIFA executives and members and the Qatar bid committee have been made. Theo Zwanziger and former president Sepp Blatter are among the FIFA officials who have publicly stated that it was a “mistake” to give the tournament to Qatar.
But now these are just allegations and Qatar is hosting the FIFA World Cup.
