French WTA player, Caroline Garcia called out the fans’ and media personnel’s hypocritical takes, who are now counting out Novak Djokovic for his Australian Open loss, even though he is still the World No.1.
After dominantly finishing the last season by winning 3 out of the four Majors and the ATP finals, things have slowed down for the 24-time Grand Slam Champion. Djokovic bowed out of the Australian Open last month in the semifinal by an up-and-coming star, Jannik Sinner. The Italian defeated the defending champion 6–1, 6–2, 6–7, 6–3 to win his maiden Grand Slam title.
Last year, Carlos Alcaraz was the one who stole away the chance from the Serbian to win all four Majors. So, after Sinner, too, won his first one against him, the attention shifted from Novak to the young generation of stars who were challenging his throne at the top.
Caroline Garcia, the current World No. 23, reacted to his and said that while everyone was unanimously crowning Novak as the GOAT just two weeks ago, it was shocking to see how the media narrative and fans have flipped on the Serbian. The turnaround from being an inspirational figure to being ‘old and finished’ was the funniest of them all.
“I was scrolling a bit and basically Djokovic was the GOAT 2 weeks ago, still so young, moving so well beyond of this age, going for another Slam once again, a true inspiration, And now he is too old, we are in a completely new era, he is finished for tennis… this is funny,” Garcia tweeted.

“Novak Djokovic is ahead of everyone else in all statistics” — Stan Wawrinka on the GOAT debate
Stan Wawrinka recently sat down with Marca to talk about his career and season goals for the year. In the interview, he gave his opinion on the infamous GOAT debate.
Novak Djokovic has been on top of the tennis world for over a decade now. He is also widely regarded as the best player in tennis history. But there are still people, who side with Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal in this conversation.
Stan Wawrinka gave an interview to Marca where he was asked to opine on the topic and how he believes his compatriot Roger Federer and rival Rafael Nadal stack up against the Serbian. To which, the Swiss 38-year-old replied by saying that the numbers and stats back one person more than the others and that was Novak Djokovic.
“Djokovic is ahead of everyone else in all statistics,” said Stan.
