WWE is one of the greatest forms of entertainment that people of any age can consume in their free time. The world of WWE has provided us with so many great matchups to talk about in the friend circle and on social media platforms.
On top of that WrestleMania is the greatest event held annually. One of the most anticipated brawls takes place here at this event. Let us take a look at the Top 5 most amazing WrestleMania matchups of all time.
5. Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns (WrestleMania 31)
On the night of 29th March 2015, every WWE fanatic was about to witness one of the greatest matches in the wrestling universe as the main event of the night was just around the corner. It was a matchup in which none of the two faces stood up as a victor but somebody else.
The build-up to this main event matchup was insane. Brock Lesnar who had destroyed Undertaker’s legendary WrestleMania win streak, was at his peak as he carried on to win the championship title match against John Cena.
On the other hand, our challenger was no less as he was on a rampage after their group had been disbanded last year when Seth Rollins betrayed them. Roman reigns went on to win the 2015 Royal Rumble to be able to fight Lesnar.
The fight was somewhat equal as both the beasts exchanged fatal blows on each other and the ring was surrounded by their bloodlust making the atmosphere forceful. After a tiring 15 minutes on the ring, it looked like we had reached the finale of the match as both the superstars were fading out.
This is when Seth Rollins comes into the scene and cashes his money in the bank to make it a triple threat match although two of them were exhausted. Roman Reigns hit a sphere on Lesnar to drop him down while Seth Rollins took the opportunity to hit Reigns with a Curb Stomp and then went on to do a pinfall to win the championship.
4. The Hardy Boyz vs. The Dudley Boyz vs. Edge and Christian (WrestleMania X-Seven)
This tag team match is without any doubt one of the best performances of all time. The WrestleMania 17 of 2001 saw these three so-called ‘brother’ teams collide with each other with all their might to perfection and provide us with a mesmerizing tag team match to remember.
Apart from The Hardy Boyz and The Dudley Boyz, there was another team that caught the limelight in the matchup: Christian and Edge. The match was full of action and entertainment all around as these six people kickstarted the Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match.
As soon as the match started, the defending tag team champion Dudley Boyz gained control of the match. However, that didn’t last much as Hardy Boyz was next then followed by Christian and Edge to dominate the game. The matchup came out to be equal.
Another big highlight of the match was three interference total that build up throughout the match. Lita had interfered to help the Hardy Boyz, Spike followed in to cut the interference and at last, we see Rhyno who had come in to help Christian and Edge pave a way to their victory. Rhyno boosted Christian on his shoulders so that he could grab the hanging belt easily and along with it the victory in this incredible matchup.
3. Shawn Michaels vs Kurt Angle (WrestleMania 21)
One of the most foreseen matches of the 2005 WrestleMania 21 was the clash between these two amazing wrestlers. Shawn Michaels and Kurt Angle were both big-time wrestlers and the top performers on Raw and SmackDown respectively.
Even after this much fame on both sides, the two had never clashed before in a high-stakes WrestleMania matchup. This edition of WrestleMania marked their first battle. And as expected both the performers were exceptionally good and gave us a match to be remembered until our lives.
Everybody in the stadium was on their feet to appreciate this incredible matchup that lasted for a long 27-minute mark on the clock. It was an equal matchup from the start with both the wrestlers exchanging blows at each other. Signature moves, finishers, and special moves all around the ring. There were so many cliffhanger moments that grabbed viewers by the hooks. However, the matchup ended when Shawn Michael gave into the pain from a lock by Kurt Angle which he tried to outlast for more than 5 minutes.
2. Edge vs Chris Jericho vs Chris Benoit vs Shelton Benjamin vs Kane vs Christian ( Wrestlemania 21)
The Wrestlemania 21 in 2005 marked the beginning of one of the most interesting formats in WWE history: the Money in the bank Ladder match. This fresh concept became successful and was performed traditionally in the coming years. Let’s take a look at the overview of the first-ever Money in the bank ladder match.
The hanging Money in the Bank suitcase left everybody confused. The match featured one of the most popular names in the WWE catalog and was a bliss to the eyes of a WWE enjoyer. The match started with all the superstars exchanging blows at each other. Jericho jumped out of the ring on the “Hall of Famer’ Edge to inflict damage on him. However, the action had just started, one by one all the other superstars joined this jump train started by Jericho and after a blink of an eye, it was a mountain of bodies outside the ring.
Having recovered faster, Kane stood up and went on to remove the ladders that were hidden beneath the ring. This was a moment of awe for the audience that now understood the purpose of the ‘hanging’ Suitcase. Kane had to place the ladder beneath the case and had to climb it to the top and untie the case from the rope in order to win the case. However, this was very difficult as there were 5 more contestants to create obstructions.
The possession of the ladder was observed playing past the parcel within the superstars. Kane smacked the ladder and crushed Benoit’s arm. After a lot of moves getting exchanged and some fierce exchange of blows, Kane stood the victor and cleared the ring. Everyone lying down, Kane started to climb the ladder. Benoit knocked out Kane and was inches away from the win when Edge hit his wounded arm with a steel chair and Benoit was crying in pain. Edge snatched the case and the win of the first-ever Money in the bank ladder match.
1. Bret Hart vs Stone cold Steve Austin (Wrestlemania 13)
These two fated rivals were supposed to fight it out in the upcoming submission match in Wrestlemania 13. The match was supposed to be a pivotal point in their storyline. To add glory to this matchup the federation called up a legendary UFC athlete to be the guest. Ken Shamrock was seen wearing the black and white stripes and being the special guest referee to their important brawl.
The fight started pretty straightforward and old school. However, this brawl became pretty intense and is still considered one of the fiercest matchups of all time. There was no item left in the stadium that was not yet used as a weapon to hurt the enemy by the two players.
Steve Austin was left wounded towards the end of the show. When Austin was shut down on the ring, Bret went on to grab his opponent’s both hands by the back and went on to lock him into a Sharpshooter. Refusing to give up on the pain and submit, Austin endured the suffering mentally but his body eventually gave up and he passed out.
The guest referee had announced Bret as the victor of the match. However, the audience was still cheering for Steve Austin for his exceptional performance. This was more than enough to rage take control of his body as Bret started beating the passed-out Austin with heavy blows until Shamrock had to interfere. The former mischievous Austin was suddenly replaced by a different soul who had become the new ‘good boy’ face of the entertainment verse.
