“I wish I didn’t have to deal with Prime Federer and Prime Nadal,” Nick Kyrgios speaks up on the dominance of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal
Nick Kyrgios has been one of the most popular tennis stars despite never winning a Grand Slam major. However, he believes that had it not been for the golden generation and him facing prime versions of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, the outlook of his career could have looked completely different.
During a segment at the ATP finals of the last season, the panel and Kyrgios were discussing the advent of the new generation of players like Carlos Alcaraz, Holger Rune, Jannik Sinner etc. This gave the Australian to ponder about the competition he had to face before eventually making a breakout.
According to the Australian, the competition in the golden age of tennis was just extremely fierce. The Australian has faced some of the best tennis players of all time in his career, going up against the likes of Rafael Nadal, Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray, among others.
“I wish I could turn back the clock maybe 10 years,” he said. “I wish I was coming up during this time, so I didn’t have to deal with prime Federer and prime Nadal. That would have been nice.”
The Australian said that once he’s recovered from his injury and is back in shape, ‘big things’ can be expected from him at the 2024 Wimbledon.
“As soon as I’m healthy again. I feel like I got a chance to do some big things at Wimbledon,” Kyrgios said.
