Holger Rune features in the latest release of the Netflix tennis documentary ‘Break Point: Season 2’. The Dane commented on his rival Carlos Alcaraz getting a two Grand Slam head start in his career.
Long-time rivals Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune endured contrasting results in the 2023 season. While the Spaniard captured his second major title in Wimbledon, Rune was left empty-handed as he couldn’t make it to any of the Grand Slam finals last year.

Last season was an uphill battle for the Dane with turmoil running throughout the season. In addition to his injury-riddled season, he also had a fallout with his former coach Patrick Mouratoglou.
But the extent of his disappointing season didn’t rest there, he was brilliant in the clay season. He moved his way up in the 2023 Monte-Carlo Masters defeating the likes of Medvedev and his other rival Jannik Sinner to reach the finals. However, Rublev defeated him in three and denied him an opportunity to capture his second Masters title.
The Italian Open would also have a similar fate for him as he would eventually lose in the finals to Daniil Medvedev.
Reflecting on his season and Carlos’ success at Wimbledon, Rune couldn’t help but feel disappointed. Although he was happy about his childhood rival’s Grand Slam wins, he felt that it was an opportunity missed for him as well. He congratulated Alcaraz but stated that their rivalry had just begun. And there’s a lot of time for him to catch and overcome the Spaniard.
“Alcaraz what he’s doing isn’t just incredible, it’s insane. It makes me raise my level. If it doesn’t hurt a little bit, it is because you don’t care enough.”
“That’s also a motivation to be like, next time, I’m not gonna sit on the couch the Sunday of the Wimbledon final.”
“I am happy to give him a 2-0 lead, but let’s count when we finish our careers,” he added.
Rune has started the new season strong by reaching the finals of the Brisbane International and has high hopes for achieving the same in the Australian Open and winning his maiden Grand Slam title.

The Australian Open main draw was announced a couple of days ago, and it seems like Holger Rune is set up to face some juggernauts on his way to a maiden Grand Slam title.
The Danish player will begin his quest for a major title by facing Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka in the first round. He’s projected to face Laslo Djere in the second. However, the competition gets even tougher for him as he moves towards the later stages of the tournament.
It is predicted that Holger will have to overcome ranked 3 Medvedev in the Quarter Finals, ranked 2 Alcaraz in the semis and Novak Djokovic in the final to win the tournament.
A fan on Twitter commented on the potential opponents of Rune and had this to say.
