One of the most esteemed Tennis players and an ‘icon’ for the sport, Roger Federer was spotted with his family in the Rugby World Cup Finals stands cheering for the South African Team.
On Saturday, October 28, South Africa and New Zealand Rugby teams battled it out in a nail-biting final game which ended in a 12-11 win in favor of the Springboks. This victory made them the team with the highest number of Rugby World Cups beating the tied record of 3 wins with New Zealand.
Tennis Icon Roger Federer flew out to France with his family to attend this finals game. Being close friends with Siya Kolisi who is the current captain of the South African Team, Roger Federer was rooting for Springbok’s victory.
Along with Roger were his wife, his four children, and his mother Lynette who has South African Origins. Federer Family were proudly wearing the Springbrok scarves and cheering for the team until the end.
When New Zealand was down 6-12 against South Africa, the camera rolled to the Tennis Champ while he was completely into the game. We can see from the clip below how it took a little bop from his son for him to take notice of the camera.
His dedication to watching the game was clearly visible. Even when the game ended, Roger gave both the teams a standing ovation and was also delighted on South Africa’s win.
The Springboks successfully defended their World Cup title from 2019 and in the process also became the first team to win 4 World Cup titles in the history of Rugby. New Zealand who also have 3 World Cup Titles, were devastated after the loss with a very close margin.
Many big celebrities from all around the world were also spotted during the event. Roger Federer’s arch nemesis from his times and the current World No.1 Novak Djokovic was also enjoying the game from the stands. Jason Mamoa a.k.a The Aquaman and famous singer Rita Ora were also seen supporting their respective teams during the game.
Roger Federer visits the South African team in their dressing room after the finals
After the game was over and the South African team was back to their dressing room, Former Tennis World No. 1 Roger Federer paid them a visit to congratulate them on their hard-earned victory.
Roger is good friends with the captain of the South African Team, Siya Kolisi. He invaded the dressing room while the team were celebrating to conratulate all the players and staff on their incredible feat.
The team members were delighted to see the 20-times Grand Slam champion amongst them. A video clip of the same was posted by the official account of the Rugby World Cup on X(formerly Twitter).
It seems like Roger Federer is now enjoying time with his family and friends in France and will most likely also watch the Paris Masters where both World No. 1 and 2, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz are going to make their comebacks.
