Japanese legend Keiji Muto aka The Great Muta is confirmed to be the next inductee of the Hall Of Fame Class of 2023 alongside Rey Mysterio! It was recently confirmed by WWE’s The Bump that the Japanese Legend will be inducted into the Hall Of Fame by his friend Ric Flair over WrestleMania week.
Keiji Muto, also known as The Great Muta has worked in World Championship Wrestling(WCW) and New Japan Pro-Wrestling(NJPW) throughout his career. Widely considered as one of the best wrestlers in history, Muta is also one of the first Japanese wrestlers to gain an international fanbase.
The Great Muta’s Achievements
The Great Muta is one of the only five wrestlers to win three major championships of puroresu- NJPW’s IWGP Heavyweight Championship, AJPW’s Triple Crown Heavyweight Championship and Noah’s GHC Heavyweight Championship. He also held NWA World’s Heavyweight Championship, making him an overall nine-time champion.
He is also a thirteen-time world Tag Team Champion- six IWGP Tag Team Championships, five AJPW World Tag Team Championships, one GHC Tag Team Championship and one WCW World Tag Team Championship. In total, he has held over 32 championships. Now he can add “Hall Of Famer” as well, to his long list of achievements.
Muta’s legendary career came to an end with a retirement tour that wrapped up in Tokyo Dome last month. He fought Tetsuya Naito and Masahiro Chono in his final matches. His retirement tour also included a match against WWE’s Shinsuke Nakamura. His final matches also included a tag match with Sting and AEW Wrestler Darby Allin.
Muta’s long-time rival and friend in real life, Ric Flair had only good things to say about him. He jokingly said, “I’ve wrestled him probably 500 times.” According to Flair, when one is honoured and enshrined in the WWE Hall of Fame, it really makes one a special person, and he is glad that WWE is presenting this honour to Muta.
Flair said that he has a special place in his heart for Muta as his late son, Reid was working with Muta in Japan before he passed away.
Fans’ Reactions to Muta being inducted
Rey Mysterio and Muta are the first two inductees of WWE’s Hall Of Fame Class of 2023 so far. This was certainly a well-deserved honour for the Japanese legend. We are certainly looking forward to him being inducted into the Hall Of Fame on March 31, which is taking place right after SmackDown.
