Last night after an exciting game between Argentina and Netherlands, Lionel Messi slammed the referee of the match. He was not happy with their decisions even after they won the game.
Last night Argentina made it to the semifinals of the FIFA World Cup after beating the Netherlands in a thrilling show of a quarterfinal. They survived the late Dutch flow and won the penalties 3-4.
What did Lionel Messi say?
After the match Messi was furious, even though they won a very close encounter with the Netherlands still the referee’s performance made Messi frustrated.
He said, “After they got the draw, I felt a lot of anger, I don’t want to talk about the referee, because they immediately reprimand you or sanction you, but I think people saw what happened”.
“FIFA has to review it, the referee is not up to par” he added
“FIFA has to review that, it can’t give a referee like that a match of this importance when they are not up to the task”.
The star further added in his statement, “we didn’t have a great game, and then the referee sent it to extra time. He was always against us. In the last game it was not the foul”.
“We didn’t want extra time or penalties, we already suffered too much in the world cup, but now it’s the quarterfinals”, said Leo.
We knew how to suffer, but we got to the semifinals of this world cup, it’s just something beautiful and impressive.
The heat level of the match was very high, the referee showed a total of 16 yellow cards in the match. Highest in any FIFA World Cup game. Dutch player Dumfries was sent off because of his 2nd booking.
Netherlands Vs Argentina Quarterfinals
Lionel Messi, who scored and also proved an assist helped Argentina to get 2-nil up against the Netherlands but not too late Wout Weghorst scored a goal on 83 and equalize with a second goal on 90+11.
Both teams failed to score in both halves of the extra time hence match went to the penalties. In the penalty shootout, the Argentinian goalkeeper did an absolutely amazing job and grab a win of 4-3 in the penalties.
