The world of football has seen many players make names for themselves and have a good life. But there are also players who gave their all to get the game name they wanted. 5. Agostino Di Bartolomei
A.S Roma’s Hall of Fame player, Bartolomei was one of their best midfielders. His playmaking skills were second to none. He helped his team win three Coppa Italia titles and gradually climbed up the ladder to become the captain of the team.
However, when he left the field and had to face the reality outside the football world, he couldn’t contain it all and was undergoing severe depression. And once and for all he shot himself in the middle of his chest giving up on his life in his own Villa in San Marco di Castellabate.
4. Alan Davies
Born in Manchester on 5th December 1961, Alan Davies has been part of Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Swansea City. Although Alan was not seen playing leagues much for Manchester United in his 7-year stay there, he was there to witness the FA Cup 1982-83 win firsthand on the field.
However, he was found dead in his car on 4th February 1992. After Alan dropped his daughter to school, he drove to Horton and committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning.
3. Sergi Lopez
Sergi Lopez was born on 6th October 1967. He played for Barcelona from 1987-91 and won the Copa del Rey 1989-90. He also played as a defender for three more clubs after that.
However after he gave up on his game and moved on with his family to Argentina, he was in complete shambles. His marriage failed and he went into clinical depression, Unable to afford his medicinal needs, the player decided to end his life by throwing himself in front of a train.
2. Dale Roberts
Born on 22 October 1986 in Horden, County Durham, Dale Roberts was an English Goalkeeper. His fame dates back to the 2008-09 season when he played extremely well for the Rushen and Diamonds.
However, on 14 December 2010, the player was found dead in his house. He was found hanging and the police declared it death by asphyxiation.
1. Robert Enke
Having been awarded Goalkeeper of the Season multiple times, Robert Enke was one of the finest goalkeepers of all time. Enke played for Mönchengladbach, Benfica and Barcelona. He also made 8 international appearances for the German team.
Unable to digest the loss of his daughter, Enke was suffering from depression for 6 years straight. Ultimately, the player decided to end his suffering by throwing himself in front of a train in Eilvese. He also left a suicide note which the police decided not to make public.
