In the 22nd edition of the FIFA World Cup that took place in Qatar, we witnessed several youngsters play in their first-ever World Cup. This year we got to see some of the best young talents in the tournament.
Some renowned youngsters like Tchouameni from France to Gvardiol from Croatia whom you may have not heard of there were many who starred. The talent and potential of some of these players are unreal.
It is safe to say that the future of football looks secure with many young players ready to take the place of some experienced players for who the time has now come to retire. Out of the various superstars in this World Cup, we have managed to shortlist the top 10 young talents featured this year: –
10. Mohammed Kudus- Ghana Age: 22
At 22, he was the highlight of the Ghana football team. Though he did not make it far in the tournament, he had an excellent group stage controlling the midfield for Ghana scoring two goals for them, and also winning a penalty. Currently playing at Ajax he has a bright future ahead of him.
9. Azzedine Ounahi- Morocco Age: 22
Another 22-year-old, he was a surprise to the World playing a key part in the Moroccan midfield all the way to the semi-finals. His ball-carrying ability along with engine-like stamina covering large distances on the field was something to notice.
8. Goncalo Ramos- Portugal Age: 21
He made the headlines when he was picked in place of the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo against Switzerland. Proving everyone wrong, he scored the World Cup’s first hattrick in that game and established himself as a marksman up top to start in the quarter-finals again. At 21 he is currently playing for Benfica.
7. Jamal Musiala- Germany Age:19
After Germany did not make it past the group stage, he was one of the positives to take back from the tournament. Even though he only picked up an assist, his overall inventive attacking play caught the eye. Already a regular for Bayern, he is going to be one of Germany’s very best.
6. Bukayo Saka- England Age: 21
After missing a penalty in the Euro finals, he showed all of England what he’s made of scoring 3 goals in 4 matches. The young Gunner is already one of the most important players for the national team with his rapid pace and skillful dribbling.
5. Julian Alvarez- Argentina Age: 22
The Manchester City striker proved his worth after scoring a brace in the semi-finals against Croatia. His play style looks to fill in the boots of Sergio Aguero shaping up to follow in his footsteps.
4. Cody Gakpo- Netherlands Age:23
The Dutch winger was the talk of the town during his consecutive goal-scoring run in the group stage. He made a stellar impression with his goals and his game sense as a winger
3. Aurelien Tchouameni- France Age: 22
The French midfielder was already thought of as a generational talent after his transfer to Real Madrid. However, he proved his talent with his long-shot goal and overall performances for France running the middle of the park all the way to the finals.
2. Josko Gvardiol- Croatia Age: 20
The breakthrough defender of the tournament, he was a wall at the back causing trouble to some of the best forwards in the game. A calm and composed central defender he is currently playing his football at RB Leipzig
1 Enzo Fernandez- Argentina Age:21
After winning the Young Player of the tournament award he tops the list. Already on the target list of many of the top clubs, it is safe to say without him Argentina may have not won the World Cup. A complete midfielder he can play anywhere in the mid.
