Lionel Messi has announced that Sunday's World Cup final will be his final game.
Argentina's captain, Lionel Messi, urged his teammates to "enjoy" the FIFA World Cup 2022 semi-final victory against Croatia.
The 35-year-old is at his fifth World Cup, one more than Diego Maradona and Javier Mascherano.
After his fifth goal in the semi-final, he also overtook Gabriel Batistuta as the Albiceleste's leading World Cup scorer, with 11 goals.
Argentina fans celebrated after their country's sixth World Cup final appearance.
Messi told Argentine media outlet Diario Deportivo Ole , "I feel very happy, to be able to achieve this, to finish my World Cup journey by playing my last game in a final".
Messi added, "It's many years for the next one and I don't think I'll be able to do it".
He further said, "We're going to give everything to try to make it happen this time".
On Sunday, Argentina will face the winner of the second semifinal between France and Morocco.
